Use of XMC module without PCIe host

Hi there,

We are building a custom baseboard for use with the Innovative X5-G12. We need to know which minimum working set of signals need to be present if we want to use the card and the XAUI interface via the RocketIO lines on the P16 connector.

The P15 connector contains several signals that will be needed such as power and ground. Is there a sequencing requirement on the power lines? Also, are any of the other signals required for the card to work (such as the PCIe reference clock, etc)? Would we need to provide simulated signals for any of the P15 or P16 connector signals that may not be necessary in our configuration but are necessary for the card to power on and run?

I'm assuming you're not using any host signaling on the P15 connector (i.e. no PCI Express on your host), and only the P16 Rocket I/O lines will be used. Presumably you will have a full custom Xilinx design.

If so, then you'll need to provide power (3.3V on the "3.3V" pins, and 12V on the "VPWR" pins). All power pins and ground pins need to be connected. Current draw is given in the datasheet (0.7A on VPWR (12V), 6.1A on 3.3V). Note that this is for the standard logic and will probably be different on a custom logic design. There is no power

sequencing requirement, but one supply should not be left on for an extended period of time while the other supply is off.
